Hundreds of South Africans responded to Habitat for Humanity's call to join it in the quest to build 67 houses across the country. The initiative, Habitat for Humanity's International Nelson Mandela Day Build Week, saw houses being built to commemorate International Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July.

Film producer Anant Singh, currently in production on the only official film based on Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk To Freedom together with the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory announced on the eve of Mandela Day the production’s involvement in perpetuating the legacy of Madiba and Mandela Day.
