46664 and the Nelson Mandela Foundation have been receiving emails and letters from around the world from people who responded to the call to make a difference on Mandela Day, July 18.
In a letter dated 27 July, 2009, South Korean student Bit-Na Seong explains that the message behind the Mandela Day initiative, for individuals to make a difference within their communities, was so compelling that she wrote “many letters to introduce and promote action, that is small [things] which can change the world positively ... ”.
Not put off by her unsuccessful attempt to get schools in her area to adopt the initiative, Seong sent a piece to
The Korea Times about Mandela Day. Her letter to the press uses some of the examples that were listed in
a story that appeared on the 46664.com website. On top of that, Seong has spoken to EBS TV about broadcasting a programme about Mandela Day.
On top of her desire to spread the Mandela Day message, Seong has pledged to volunteer at a local orphanage during her holidays, trying to help the children “recognise their power ... to change the world and themselves”.
